The decision of the US justice system to acquit terrorist Alexandre Alazo for the attack on the Cuban embassy in Washington in 2020 condemned the Cuban government, TeleSUR reported on May 10.
“We express our deep concern about the US judge’s decision to acquit Alexander Alazo for his terrorist attack on the Cuban embassy on April 30, 2020.”said the Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez. The minister pointed out that the US court’s decision creates a dangerous precedent of impunity for those who carried out violent actions against the Washington embassy.
The Cuban Foreign Ministry issued a statement recalling that Alazo is a man of Cuban descent who has lived in the United States since 2010. In the early hours of April 30, 2020, he fired 32 bullets with an AK-47 semi-automatic rifle at the embassy building. The attack caused material damage to the exterior and interior of the building and endangered the lives of several people who were inside the building.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlights that it was a terrorist attack in the American capital. The terrorist was immediately detained on the spot and charged with four crimes by the United States government. However, he did not classify this action as a terrorist act.
The Ministry considers that the politicization of the attack on the embassy by the United States was evident from the first minutes. This is demonstrated by a long process of analysis of proven facts.
