Malaysia hopes to further strengthen relations with Singapore under new head of government Lawrence Wong, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on May 10, Malay Mail reported.
Anwar said Malaysia’s willingness reflects the positive sentiment expressed by outgoing Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who hopes the close relationship between the two countries will continue to flourish under Wong’s leadership.
“Prime Minister Lee has formally informed me that he will hand over the reins to Lawrence Wong next week and expressed his hope that the close relationship between Malaysia and Singapore will continue to flourish under new leadership.”Anwar said.
“I welcome Prime Minister Lee’s wishes and am committed to continuing to strengthen Malaysia-Singapore relations under Lawrence’s leadership.”“added the politician.
Anwar noted that he had the opportunity to invite Lee and his wife Ho Ching to visit Malaysia in the near future.
Wong, who is currently Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, will succeed Lee Hsien Loong as Prime Minister of Singapore on May 15.
