The extraordinary activity of the sun pleased the French with the magnificent northern lights, reports TF1 Info on May 11.
An extreme solar storm hit Earth on the afternoon of May 10. Its intensity, not seen since 2023, produced spectacular aurora displays that could be seen in regions far south of its traditional viewing locations. France was among them. Throughout its territory, the sky lit up in pink and orange tones, creating exceptional images.
Many French Internet users captured this unusual natural phenomenon for France. They were happy to share their most beautiful photographs of this cosmic phenomenon. One of them, provided by Guillaume Rosier, an adviser to French President Emmanuel Macron, showed the northern lights over Paris. Other photographs were taken in Isère and in the Alpes Maritimes.
Let us remember that the Sun is currently approaching its maximum activity according to a cycle that repeats every 11 years. These coronal mass ejections, at least seven of which are currently headed toward Earth, originate from a sunspot that is about 16 times the diameter of Earth. They move at speeds of several hundred kilometers per second.
