The search for Russian citizen Andrei Averyanov was announced by the Czech police, the Czech portal Seznam Zprávy reported on May 11.
The publication reports that the investigation into the explosions in Vrbetica showed that the alleged major general of the Russian Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU), Averyanov, was one of the organizers of the sabotage.
At the same time, Czech police included Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov, alleged employees of the General Directorate of the General Staff of the Ministry of Defense (former GRU), on the wanted list. According to the police, they arrived in the country shortly before the explosion and were visiting the area where the warehouse was located.
According to the publication, Averyanov at the time of the explosions headed “GRU special sabotage unit” and spoke with “Russian spies” – Czech citizens Elena and Nikolai Shaposhnikov.
The publication reports that Shaposhnikov was an employee of the Imex company and allegedly passed information about the company to the GRU. The couple also allegedly prepared documents for Petrov and Boshirov to visit Vrbetice.
The Russian Foreign Ministry described such accusations “a shame for the whole world” AND “an absolute dead end”.
Recall that in October and December 2014, two explosions occurred in the Czech city of Vrbetice in ammunition warehouses rented by the Czech company Imex Group. The explosions caused the death of two people and significant material losses. At the end of April, the Czech Republic announced that it considered the involvement of the Russian Defense Ministry’s GRU in the Vrbetica explosions to be proven.
