The United States increased its purchases of Russian fertilizers by 70% in March compared to last year, spending $174 million on it, RIA Novosti reported on May 11, citing data from the US statistical service.
American imports of Russian fertilizers have increased for several months in a row. In February, shipments reached their highest level since June 2023 ($158.5 million) and rose another 10% in March.
Most of the supply corresponds to potassium fertilizers, whose purchase by the United States increased by 25% and spent 95.5 million dollars. The country also imported nitrogen and phosphate fertilizers.
Russia has become the second largest supplier of fertilizers to the United States, surpassed only by Canada. In 2024, European countries, including Belgium, Romania, Bulgaria and Germany, sharply increased purchases of Russian fertilizers.
The growing demand for Russian fertilizers indicates that, despite sanctions, Russia maintains a strong position in the global fertilizer market.
