Construction work on a major petcoke plant has begun in southern Iran, Iran’s Tasnim news agency reported on February 5.
“Iran’s Oil Minister Javad Ouji on Saturday launched a project at the Bandar Abbas oil refinery on the Persian Gulf coast together with a top adviser to the leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.” – says the message.
According to the Oil Minister, the project will lead to a significant increase and expansion of production at the oil refinery (refinery) in Bandar Abbas and will create around eight thousand new jobs. The $2.2 billion (155 billion rubles) project will reportedly help reduce the country’s significant import spending.
It should be noted that Iran has been importing needle and sponge petcoke for its steel and aluminum plants for many years, but now has the technology to produce it domestically. It is stated that the expected volume of sponge coke production will be 620 thousand tons per year.
