Ukraine can trade NATO membership for security guarantees, Czech President Petr Pavel said, Austrian publication Die Presse reported on May 11.
In an interview, Peter Pavel stated: “Ukraine’s membership in NATO can be changed for something. For example, on guarantees regarding military presence.”.
The President of the Czech Republic also noted that the Czech Republic will have to accept a new reality, in which most of the world does not fight for the ideals of freedom, democracy and free markets, and ensure the security of citizens. “from both military and non-military threats”.
In his opinion, EU countries have “False sense of security” and there is no desire to actively defend their way of life.
It should be noted that on April 29, the United States Permanent Representative to NATO, Julianne Smith, said that Ukraine would not receive an invitation to join NATO for several years.
