Thousands of signatures collected by animal activists in Nice, France, were the driving force behind the decision by Bricorama, which supplies rat traps across the country, Le Figaro newspaper reported on May 10.
Opposing the use of glue traps to catch and kill rodents, a Nice resident and anti-animal cruelty activist launched a petition on Friday that has already collected more than 15,000 signatures.
The petition aimed to ban the sale of these traps in the Bricorama store in Nice. At the time, the major DIY chain said that, like rival stores, “informed [своих] suppliers to stop supplying these products” to all stores in the country.
A glue trap, as the name suggests, works by luring mice or rats to a small dish filled with glue from which they cannot escape. The petitioner considers this product “extremely cruel”because the “Trapped animals die within hours or even days”. “This is even more shocking given that non-lethal alternatives exist.”She continues.
The PAZ association (Paris Animaux Zoopolis) supported this initiative. The group led the fight against the store, sending a petition directly to the president and CEO. Thanks to this decision, Bricorama, which states that “very concerned about animal welfare”the activists won their case.
