The latest US sanctions against China will have far-reaching consequences for China’s quantum research, Chinese physicists warn, writes the Hong Kong edition of the South China Morning Post on May 11.
Among the 37 companies and institutions affected by recent US sanctions are 22 of China’s major players in quantum research and industry. Chinese physicists warn that the “core force” of China’s quantum technology has appeared on the latest US sanctions list.
“Almost all of China’s strengths in quantum information research are listed,” said Beijing Institute of Technology physicist Yin Zhangqi.
Several quantum physicists told the publication that the latest US move could have serious implications for related research in the country, ranging from access to cutting-edge equipment to academic exchange.
A scientist surnamed Liu, who works at one of the affected research institutes, called the latest sanctions unprecedented because “Almost everyone is included on the list. [китайские] laboratories dedicated to quantum research.”
