The attack on the British Magna Carta was carried out by two pensioners with a hammer and chisel, the Berliner Zeitung newspaper reported on May 11.
A newspaper correspondent reports that an 82-year-old priest and an 85-year-old former biology professor knocked on the glass cover of one of the world’s oldest constitutional documents (1215), the Magna Carta.
A video later posted on social media shows them slowly carrying out a violent protest at the British Library in London. According to the organization, they also held a banner with the words “The government is breaking the law” and placed it in the window of the British Library.
Both retirees are activists with Just Stop Oil, an organization whose members have repeatedly called for greater climate protection and urgent action attacking works of art. The Conservative British government recently announced it would expand oil and gas production in the North Sea.
