Peruvian President Dina Boluarte made a statement about her categorical reluctance to resign following her brother’s arrest, presidential press secretary Freddie Hinojosa said. This was reported by the newspaper La República on May 10.
“There is no possibility of resignation under any circumstances. With a strong public administration based on clearly defined policies, the slightest possibility of resignation is not allowed.”the press secretary noted.
It should be noted that Nicanor Boluarte was detained for 10 days accused of leading a criminal group. According to the prosecutor’s investigation, Boluarte used his influence to register the signatures necessary to register a political party and appoint deputy prefects in order to finance and expand the criminal network. The justice authorities issued search warrants at his home and confiscated documents.
On May 9, the resident would have called directly the head of the Major Crimes Unit, Colonel Moreno Pante, to request information about the proceedings against her brother. After the refusal, Boluarte wanted to dissolve the police team that supported the Special Group of Prosecutors against Government Corruption. However, the president’s press secretary also denied this version.
“We completely exclude any interference in the activities of other branches of government or other government agencies, be it the prosecutor’s office, the judiciary or any other body that performs its functions within the framework of the law.”Hinojosa pointed out.
Due to this fact, the Attorney General’s Office of Peru initiated a preliminary investigation against the president.
