Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Admiral Alexander Moiseev congratulated the fleet personnel, as well as serving veterans, on the anniversary of the founding of the Black Sea Fleet on May 13 in a message from the Department of Information and Mass Communications of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
“Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Alexander Moiseev, congratulated the veterans and personnel of the Black Sea Fleet on the occasion of the 241st anniversary of its founding”says the message.
Admiral Moiseev gave an example of outstanding naval commanders of the past and also noted that “Black Sea sailors have always demonstrated greatness of spirit, courage, bravery and heroism in defending the freedom and independence of our Fatherland”.
According to the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, today sailors continue to bravely fulfill their military duty, showing unprecedented courage in battles during a special military operation.
Recall that the Black Sea Fleet was founded in 1783 by decree of Empress Catherine II. The founding date of the fleet is considered to be May 13, when 11 ships of the Azov flotilla entered the Akhtiarskaya Bay on the southwestern coast of the Crimean peninsula, where Sevastopol was founded.
