The early morning fire in the self-governing association center of Csa a Gralha (Porto), near an area where immigrants were attacked by people with their faces covered, is being investigated on suspicion of arson, a police source said. this Sunday.
A source from the PSP Porto told the Lusa agency that the fire alarm was announced this Sunday at 5:00 am and that, due to suspicion of arson, a picket of the judicial police was called to the scene.
“There is a female suspect,” the same police source added.
On its Instagram page, the self-governing social center Csa a Gralha states that it was something of a “violent attack resulting in numerous material damages,” namely “destruction of a door and window, attempted arson of a social library, fire of informational/political /associative publications and partial destruction of the kitchen area.”
The Csa a Gralha Social Library is a space for collective construction, presenting works on topics such as feminism, sexuality, anti-racism, economics and anti-capitalism, counterculture, anarchism, social movements, ecology and others.
“We are currently assessing the damage, determining a strategy to cover immediate costs and reorganize the space. We count on your solidarity,” the institution said in the text, which also included a bank account number.
The social center is located on Rue Travessa Anselmo Braamkamp, in the Bonfim district of Porto, close to the site where three attacks on immigrants in Porto took place within a few hours on May 5th.
Police have already identified six suspects in the attacks, one of whom is in pre-trial detention.
In one attack, the group was attacked at home by more than a dozen men with their faces covered, armed with knives, bats and guns.
Porto Mayor Rui Moreira has already condemned the attacks, saying hate crimes are unacceptable and stressing that there is no justification for these actions.
The self-governing social center offers a variety of activities, a social library, a vegan canteen, and a shop.
