Health authorities in the Republic of South Africa (South Africa) have recorded around two cases of cholera infection, Anadolu Agency reports on February 6.
The South African Department of Health said two sisters who traveled together from Johannesburg to Malawi developed cholera symptoms on their return home.
“They were hospitalized on February 4 with diarrhea and dehydration and are considered potentially infected”the health department said, adding that “Laboratory results are pending. They are also monitoring those who came into contact with them.”.
It should be noted that in Malawi, where there was a cholera outbreak last year, more than 1,000 people have died from the disease to date.
The South African Ministry of Health called for vigilance in connection with the identification of the first cases in the country, urging citizens to observe proper hygiene standards.
