The Angolan National Agency of Oil, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG) announced this Monday the “successful” drilling of the Likembe-01 exploration well in block 15, operated by ExxonMobil in partnership with Azule Energy, Equinor and Sonangol.
ANPG said in a statement that the well, located in the Kizomba B development area at a depth of 1,200 meters, was drilled between February and April.
According to the Angolan concessionaire, the well is the first drilled under the preliminary agreements of the Additional Production Project (PPI), “which is approved by the Angolan executive”, which aims to incentivize investors to produce additional volumes of oil. concessions currently in production.
Considered one of the most important concessions in the country, Block 15 already has 18 commercial discoveries in its 20 years of operation and is located approximately 145 kilometers west of the coast of the Angolan province of Zaire.
ANPG and ExxonMobil, operator of Block 15, last week signed a letter of agreement to reimburse additional exploration costs.
The concessionaire said in a note also published this Monday that the agreement aims to encourage investors to drill more exploration wells, “with a guarantee of cost recovery under the PPI.”
