The Judicial Court of Beira in central Mozambique sentenced on Tuesday to seven and a half years in prison a man who killed his wife, beat her and burned her with an iron.
The man was found guilty of intentionally causing bodily harm resulting in the death of a woman, as well as paying compensation in the amount of one million metises (14,500 euros) to the victim’s family.
The court recalled that the 23-year-old victim died at the Central Hospital da Beira, Sofala province, after three months in a coma following physical attacks and violence committed by her husband on November 4, 2022, following a conversation between the spouses. .
The judge said the defendant, who denied the charges in court, acted knowingly and left the woman at the scene without help, which was later provided by neighbors.
