French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said on Tuesday that during the handover of the Paris 2024 Olympic torch, 32 protests had been prevented since its arrival in the country on May 8.
“These were not attacks or criminal acts, but protests for various reasons,” said the official, who also admitted that two attempts to touch the Olympic flame were foiled.
According to Darmanin, regional security services were able to intervene and prevent protests, such as the laying of banners, and also intercepted three drones.
At a press conference, the Interior Minister said that 331,000 administrative checks have been carried out on people who will take part in the Games out of a total of about a million that will be carried out, and 1,193 people have already been excluded. including 13 associated with the far left, five with the far right and five with radical Islam.
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11.
