The results of the initial tournament of the Russian Fencing Championship among young people (born in 2001-2010) became known on May 14 in Tula, the press service of the Russian Fencing Federation reported.
On the first day of competition, the foilists competed for prizes. In the duel for first place swords were crossed, leaving many strong athletes without hopes of medals on the way to the final: Valery Kornilov from Ufa and Dmitry Osipov from St. Petersburg. At first Osipov took the lead 3:0, but then his opponent was able to equalize the score and take the lead. However, at the end of the fight, with a score of 13:12 in favor of Kornilov, Dmitry was able to apply three unanswered injections and won 15:13.
Third place was shared by Osipov’s teammate Dmitry Chashchin and Alexander Kerik from Nizhny Novgorod. In total, more than 100 athletes participated in the Russian youth championship competitions, including four Belarusian foil players.
