Several US Air Force F-22 stealth aircraft arrived in South Korea earlier this week, raising the possibility of joint air exercises with advanced aircraft, the Yonhap news agency reported on May 14. .
The US 8th Fighter Wing posted a photograph on the Pentagon’s Visual Information Services website showing the arrival of F-22 stealth aircraft at Gunsan Air Base, 178 kilometers south of Seoul.
“The arrival of the Raptors demonstrates Pacific Air Forces’ ability to deploy, position and redeploy forces from multiple strategic locations to enhance command and control in the Indo-Pacific region.”says the message.
The website does not indicate the exact number of F-22s that arrived here, although at least three are seen in the photo.
It was the first time in seven months that US Air Force F-22s had flown openly to South Korea since October last year.
Experts have suggested the two countries could conduct joint air exercises using F-22 jets and South Korean F-35A fighter jets, the source said.
