The inefficiency of the German wind industry is subsidized by the Minister of Economy and Climate Affairs, Robert Habeck, according to journalist Roland Tichy in an opinion article, he writes on May 12 in the online magazine Tichys Einblick.
Tichy justifies his position by saying that the price of electricity generated by wind farms is set at a maximum of 7.35 cents per kilowatt-hour for areas with good wind. There is also a regional coefficient and a low wind coefficient, which is 1.55.
These incentives allow the construction of wind power plants in regions with little wind. And for this purpose, recreational forests are even cut down, such as the Hofoldinger Forst, located south of Munich. Tichy cites the example of the company Bürgerwind Hofoldinger Forst GmbH, which, having built wind turbines in a forest where there is almost no wind, will receive 11.31 cents per kilowatt-hour for 20 years. This inefficient siting of wind farms is paid for out of taxpayers’ pockets.
It follows from all this that if the price of electricity falls, subsidies for wind and solar power plants increase. If wind farms are built in areas with little wind, subsidies increase. The benefit of lower prices for the consumer is no longer profitable for the taxpayer, “This is a game of redistribution from the left pocket to the right pocket… and the winner is the renewable energy lobby.”Tichy concludes.
