Elections for five parliamentary representatives to the State Council, scheduled for Friday, were postponed as the PS and PSD submitted joint lists to four external bodies, including the Supreme Information Council.
Information about the postponement of the elections to the State Council, which is still on the agenda of Friday’s plenary meeting, was provided to Lusa by sources in parliament.
The joint list proposes PSD deputy Andrei Neto and PS deputy Filipe Neto Brandao, who was already in this body, as members of the Higher Information Council. Nuno Jorge Gonçalves (PSD) and Joao Paulo Rebelo are proposed as replacements.
The PS and PSD nominate deputies António Rodríguez (PSD) and Isabel Oneto (PS) as permanent members of the High Council of Internal Security, as well as deputies Pedro Neves de Sousa (PSD) and Eurydice Pereira (PS).
The proposed members of the High Council of National Defense are Francisco César (PS), who was already in this body, and Silverio Regalado (PSD), who appoint themselves as deputies to Mariana Vieira da Silva (PS) and Bruno Vitorino (PSD).
On Friday, parliamentary representatives will also be elected to the High Council for Cyberspace Security: the joint list proposes deputies Miguel Costa Matos (PS) and Liliana Reis (NSD) as effective, and João Torres (PS) and Ana Santos (PSD) as effective . substitutes.
Parliamentary representatives of these four bodies will vote on Friday and, with the exception of the High Council for Cyberspace Security (elected according to the Hondt method), will require a positive vote of a two-thirds majority of MPs.
The election of candidates for the Council of State, the political body that consults the President of the Republic, does not yet have a scheduled date.
According to the constitution, the Council of State is composed of “five citizens elected by the Assembly of the Republic in accordance with the principle of proportional representation for a period corresponding to the duration of the legislative body.”
In the previous legislature, five representatives proposed by the PS and PSD were elected in a single list – Manuel Alegre, Carlos Cesar, Sampaio da Novoa, Francisco Pinto Balseman and Miguel Cadille – and Chega presented a common list in which there was not a single representative. elected
Given the current parliamentary representation, the SDP, PS and Chega are expected to elect state councilors.
