South Korea and the United Kingdom will hold a joint summit on artificial intelligence (AI) in Seoul next week, Yonhap news agency reported on May 17.
According to the Ministry of Science and ICT of South Korea, as a continuation of the AI Security Summit held in England last November, the AI Summit will open in Seoul on May 21, which will be attended by leaders from several countries and global technology companies.
It will consist of a leaders’ meeting and a ministerial session where the safety and sustainability of AI will be discussed.
Representatives from government, industry and academia from 19 countries plan to attend the ministerial meeting to discuss global cooperation on AI security and responses to potential risks posed by AI in the future, the ministry said.
The second day will also feature a global AI forum hosted exclusively by the South Korean government, as proposed by President Yoon Seok-yeol during his keynote speech at the UN General Assembly last year to launch a new framework for global governance of AI.
