Portuguese Ricardo Quaresma this Monday expressed his “solidarity” with the people of Turkey, a country that was the victim of a devastating earthquake and where the footballer played for Besiktas and Kasimpas.
“I want to express all my solidarity with the Turkish people in these difficult times they are going through. My prayers are with the families of the victims,” the Portuguese international wrote on his Instagram account.
Quaresma represented Besiktas from 2010 to 2012 and from 2015 to 2019 until he moved to Kasimpasa where he spent a season before returning to Portugal’s Vitória de Guimarães, being an idol for Turkish fans.
An earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale this Monday in southeastern Turkey, near the Syrian border, killing more than 1,300 people, was one of the strongest in 100 years.
The earthquake struck at 4:17 am (1:17 am in Lisbon) on Monday, 33 kilometers from the provincial capital of Gaziantep, in southeastern Turkey, close to the border with Syria, at a depth of 17.9 kilometers.
So far, the earthquake this morning is estimated to have claimed the lives of more than 1,300 people in Turkey as well as in Syria.
