A 19-year-old woman was rescued from the sea on Monday by marine police at Costa Nova beach in Ilhavo, Aveiro district, the National Maritime Authority (ANM) said on Tuesday.
In a statement, AMN said the young Irish woman was stranded in the water after allegedly being dragged away by a boat.
According to the same source, the alert was received at 17:39 from a member of the public at the scene who reported that there were two people in difficulty in the water.
Members of the Aveiro Marine Police and the crew of the Aveiro Rescue Station, as well as members of the Ilhavo Volunteer Firefighters, arrived at the scene.
“On arrival at the scene, it was determined that one of the young people managed to get out of the water under his own power, while another young woman, 19 years old, of Irish nationality, found herself in difficulty in the water, being injured. She was immediately rescued by the marine police at the pier of the Aveiro Port Authority “, the same note says.
ANM also adds that the victim, who showed signs of exhaustion and hypothermia, was later treated by members of the Ilhavo Volunteer Fire Department and taken to the hospital.
