More than 4300 people They have died as a result of the succession of earthquakes registered in the southeast of Turkey, near the border with Syria, according to updated balances of victims provided by the authorities of both countries.

According to the envoy to the area, Mikel Ayestaran, the night has been long. The low temperatures and the snow in the area, where there are also mountainous territories that are difficult to access, complicate the rescue tasks. The search efforts, however, have not stopped, and rescuers are struggling to remove survivors from the rubble of dozens of collapsed buildings.

This morning, a 30-year-old man was pulled out alive from the rubble of a building, almost 30 hours later before the tremors began. A mother and her three children have also been found alive after 28 hours trapped.

25,000 people in rescue efforts

Some 25,000 people, including soldiers, are taking part in the rescue efforts, according to Orhan Tatar, a senior official from the national emergency agency, Afad, who has reported that 12.1 million euros have been allocated (13.3 million dollars) in urgent funds for the 10 most affected provinces.

In addition, dozens of countries have already started sending hundreds of rescuers and experts to search for survivors. This same night, two Iraqi and one Iranian planes loaded with supplies for those affected by the earthquake in Syria have landed in Damascus, the official Syrian news agency SANA reports.

Each of the two aircraft sent by Baghdad contains some 70 tons of food, medical materials and other supplies, with more shipments expected to follow as the neighboring country has announced an airlift for this purpose, has assured SANA a head of the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, Osama Mahdi Ghanem.

For his part, the President of USAJoe Biden, has authorized the shipment of humanitarian aid to Turkey and has announced the dispatch of additional teams to support Turkish search and rescue efforts.

Otkay has indicated that more than 350,000 victims of the earthquakes have been accommodated in university centers, shelters and student residences.

Seriously injured are also being airlifted to medical centers in Istanbul and Ankara, and a military transport ship has been deployed to take victims from the port of Iskenderoun, southeast of where the epicenter was recorded, to Mersin, where there are better equipped hospitals.

Local authorities have reported cuts in gas and electricity supplies in some areas, and the state oil company has cut oil supplies to the region as a “precautionary measure.”

AFAD calculates that more than 6200 buildings they have completely left destroyedmainly as a consequence of the 7.8 earthquake that shook the country yesterday morning and a subsequent earthquake, at noon, which reached magnitude 7.6 on the Richter scale.

The death toll continues to grow

The balance of victims continues to increase as the hours go by. On the one hand, Turkey has notified the death of 2921 peopleas well as 15,834 injured, as reported by the president of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), Yunus Sezer, collects the Anatolia agency.

On the other hand, the earthquake has left More than 1,500 dead and 3,430 injured in Syriaaccording to provisional data provided by the Syrian government and opposition forces.

As detailed, some 210 buildings “have completely collapsed” due to the earthquake, while more than 440 have been “partially destroyed” and “thousands more have suffered damage.”
