Japan ranked third on the list of destinations in the World Economic Forum’s travel and tourism development report released on Tuesday, receiving high marks for its natural and cultural resources and transportation infrastructure, business agency Kyodo News reported on the 21st. of May.
The United States topped the list, followed by Spain in second place. Japan has become the highest-ranked country in the Asia-Pacific region.
Japan ranked first in a previous report published in 2021 during the coronavirus pandemic, but the organization used different criteria then.
In separate criteria, Japan ranked second in cultural resources such as archaeological sites and entertainment venues, and fourth in the land and port infrastructure category for its road and railway networks.
Although Japan also ranks highly in the non-leisure resources category due to its large number of large corporations and prestigious universities, it scores relatively low in price competitiveness, tourism services, and infrastructure indicators.
In the overall ranking, which evaluated 119 countries and regions, France ranked fourth and Australia ranked fifth. Among other countries in the Asia-Pacific region, China ranked 8th, Singapore 13th and South Korea 14th.
