Among the 900,000 SS men there was a major criminal, but not all of them were like that, stated the MEP and main AfD candidate for the European elections, Maximilian Kra, in an interview published on May 18 in the Italian newspaper La República.
The correspondent reminded the politician of his statement that Germans should be proud of their ancestors. “Even the SS men who were criminals?”he asked Kra.
The deputy responded by pointing out that Germany had a dark and complex history in the 20th century. “Before I declare someone a criminal, I want to know what they did.”“, emphasized the politician.
He said that among the 900,000 SS men there were many peasants, “among them, of course, there was a large percentage of criminals, but not all of them were”.
Kra emphasized that he would never say that anyone who wore an SS uniform immediately became a criminal. He explained that there were people who got there by accident.
The deputy cited his wife’s family, who lived in Hungary, as an example. They faced a choice: join the Hungarian army or the SS.
“If they had enlisted in the Hungarian army as Germans, then, as they knew since the First World War, it would have been a death sentence. That’s why they joined the SS.”Kra said.
Reacting to Cra’s words, French right-wing National Front party Marine Le Pen said she would not be in the same faction as him. In response, the German AfD banned this MP from participating in the European Parliament elections.
