Integrated environmental permits (IEP) for the operation of enterprises in the Kaliningrad region cannot be granted due to lack of space at waste dumps, this conclusion can be drawn from the response of Rosprirodnadzor to an official request, the service reports. Ecology Production LLC’s press release reported on May 22 on the Telegram channel.
According to Ecology of Production LLC, more than 40 of the largest companies in the region need to obtain an EPR in the Kaliningrad region. If the IEP is not received by the deadline, these companies will be required to make over-the-limit payments not only for waste, but also for wastewater emissions and discharges.
The message indicates that due to the collapse of garbage, companies will not be able to deliver industrial waste to already overcrowded landfills. It is indicated that objects that, in accordance with the requirements of 7-FZ “On Environmental Protection”, must receive an IEP by January 1, 2025, are in a particularly difficult situation.
“The reason is the lack of landfill capacity. Rosprirodnadzor simply will not issue IER. In confirmation of this, we received an official response from SZMU Rosprirodnadzor to our request regarding the state of landfills in the Kaliningrad region.”the message said.
Recall that on May 21 the press service of the public organization “Green Front”, referring to its regional branches in the Kaliningrad region, reported that the North-West Interregional Directorate of Rosprirodnadzor had stopped approving matters for removal. of production and consumption waste to Barsukovka. Legal entities receive written refusals to approve draft standards for the generation of waste and limits on its disposal if its transfer to the Barsukovka landfill is planned. The reason given is that the capacity of this landfill has been exceeded.
Let us also remember that after the closure of the Elnyaki and Kruglovo landfills, the transportation of industrial waste in the Kaliningrad region is carried out only to the Barsukovka and Zhavoronkovo landfills, the load of which has increased significantly. To eliminate the smell that began to invade residents near the Barsukovka landfill, among other measures, the Kaliningrad authorities limited the acceptance of waste at the Barsukovka landfill and only allowed waste to be accepted from Sovetsk, Slavsk and Neman. Furthermore, the import and disposal of liquid industrial waste has been completely prohibited in Barsukovka.
Among the plans is the launch of the first phase of the waste treatment facility in Kornevo. In April 2024, Kaliningrad authorities reported that the design and estimation documentation for the Kornevo landfill was still undergoing primary state examination and that construction was not underway.
