The National Council of Justice (JNJ), Peru’s highest judicial body, has decided to suspend Attorney General Patricia Benavides, who had already been suspended for interfering in the investigation into her sister’s case.
The JNJ’s decision came on Wednesday after hearing from Maria Zavala, the prosecutor in charge of the disciplinary proceedings brought against Benavidez, who concluded that there were four very serious violations that caused “great harm.”
Patricia Benavidez is accused of instructing prosecutor Azucena Solari to prepare a report on Bersabeth Revilla’s alleged poor performance – a document she later used as justification for the removal of that prosecutor in charge of the investigation into her sister.
