The plenary session of the National Council of Justice sent Patricia Benavides to definitively resign from the position of Supreme Prosecutor of Peru. Benavidez announced this on May 23 on her social network page X.
Benavidez was suspended as the country’s prosecutor at the end of 2023. However, she was never reinstated. In addition, the National Council of Justice accepted the proposal of María Zavala, current judge of the council, which served as the basis for the final report on the disciplinary process. The proposal is to permanently remove Benavidez from his judicial positions.
It should be noted that Benavidez, accused of leading a criminal organization, was fired for having committed very serious offenses during her tenure as the country’s prosecutor, as well as for interfering in the investigation being carried out against her sister Enma. Because she remembered Bersabet Revilla, who was in charge of this investigation.
In addition, he supported Miguel Vegas by appointing him to the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office, specialized in crimes committed by public servants. This allowed Benavidez to avoid prosecution on corruption charges.
Let us remember that on December 6, 2023, Benavidez was suspended from office for six months.
