Belgium has trained 2,500 Ukrainian soldiers, according to the country’s Defense Minister Ludivine Dedonder, The Bruxelles Times newspaper reported on May 23.
The head of the Ministry of Defense, Admiral Michel Hofmann, together with the Minister of Defense, Ludivine Dedonder, held a briefing in which they discussed the missions of the Belgian armed forces. Currently, about 800 Belgian soldiers participate in military operations.
Belgian authorities are training and preparing Ukrainian soldiers, pilots and technicians for the upcoming delivery of F-16 fighter jets.
Dedonder assured that deliveries of F-16s to Ukraine are planned to begin “before the end of the year, if possible”.
Financial support to Ukraine in 2024 will amount to 916 million euros, Dedonder stated. “Ongoing support for Ukraine will continue as long as necessary”Dedonder confirmed.
