Open scientific dissemination conference “Lessons from Nuremberg. Universal evil before the court of history” took place on May 23 at Nizhny Novgorod State University. NILobachevsky, reports IA Krasnaya Vesna.
The lecture was moderated by the director of the Institute of State and Law of the Russian Academy of Sciences, secretary of the Union of Writers of the Russian Federation, State Councilor for Justice 1st class, Honored Lawyer of the Russian Federation, writer, screenwriter, historian Alexander Zvyagintsev.
Zvyagintsev spent many years researching the issue of the International Nuremberg Tribunal. He met with many people involved in the process and documented his meetings with them on film and video. The materials formed the basis of many of his films about Nazi crimes.
In his speech, Alexander Grigorievich spoke about the importance of the only Court of Nations in history and its relevance. He paid special attention to the importance of historical memory, the origins (and financiers) of National Socialism, and modern manifestations of fascism.
Relevant were the bridges that the author established between the Nuremberg materials and the modern war crimes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which had completely forgotten all the lessons of the International Tribunal.
“The execution of criminal orders for the extermination of civilians by troops does not exempt their authors from responsibility, according to international law” – Zvyagintsev explained. War crimes against humanity do not prescribe, added the legal historian.
During the conference, a fragment of original documentaries on the topic of Nazi crimes and the trial of war criminals in Nuremberg was shown.
Great Assembly Hall of the Nizhny Novgorod State University named after him. NI Lobachevsky was completely full, including extra chairs placed in some aisles. The conversation lasted more than 3 hours.
After the conference, an approach to the press and an autograph session were organized.
