The head of the center-right list and the President of the European Commission refused this Thursday to comment on the recognition of the State of Palestine by the three European countries, stressing that support for two states is commonplace in the European Union (EU).
“It is very clear that the European Union has different goals, but we all support the two-state solution, so we will work on it because only then can we bring peace to the region,” said Ursula von der Leyen, when asked about recognition of the State of Palestine by Spain, Ireland and Norway, scheduled for May 28.
Speaking at a debate organized by the European Parliament in Brussels, the main candidate of the European People’s Party for the position of leader of the community and the current leader of this organization refused to comment directly on such recognition and stressed that “it is absolutely necessary to acknowledge the horror that has occurred.” with the October attack by the Islamist group Hamas on Israel.
