The South Korean government has announced plans to strengthen the role of Korean cultural centers around the world by turning them into “cultural outposts,” KBS World reported on May 23.
In line with its international cultural policy strategy, the South Korean Ministry of Culture has committed to expanding the functions of cultural centers currently operating in 34 countries, allowing them to plan and carry out various programs independently.
The ministry will establish an international cultural policy advisory body to oversee global exchange projects in Korean culture and related industries such as tourism and sports.
It plans to expand the scope of exports of K-pop-focused cultural content to include traditional culture, crafts, fashion and publishing by establishing business centers in ten countries this year, and the number is expected to increase. will quintuple by 2027.
It should be noted that the “Korean Season” cultural festival program, which aims to promote Korean traditional culture abroad, will be held annually in ten countries.
