The high-class container ship Nadezhda was inspected by the governor of the Murmansk region, Andrey Chibis, the regional government’s press service reported on May 23.
According to the captain of the diesel-electric ship “Nadezhda” Anton Levshin, the container ship was launched in 2009. Its main purpose is the export of the company’s products from the Norilsk industrial region through the port of Dudinka, as well as the shipment of goods to Taimyr within the framework of shipment to the north. The ship was designed as a shallow draft ship specifically for traversing shallow water areas on the Yenisei River, has an Arc7 ice class and can sail without icebreaker escort along the Northern Sea Route. The equipment is fully automated.
After inspecting the diesel-electric ship, Governor Andrei Chibis met with the staff of Norilsk Nickel’s transport subsidiary in Murmansk. The meeting was also attended by Minister of Transport and Road Facilities of the Murmansk Region Yulia Poliektova and Director of the Murmansk Transport Section of PJSC MMC Norilsk Nickel Andrey Viskunov.
Let us remember that the Northern Sea Route is Russia’s unified transport communication in the Arctic. It runs along the northern coast of the country along the seas of the Arctic Ocean (Kara, Laptev, East Siberia, Chukotka), connecting the ports of the European part of Russia and the mouths of the navigable rivers of Siberia with the Far East. In August 2022, the Russian government approved a plan for the development of the Northern Sea Route until 2035, which included more than 150 measures. The total amount of financing amounts to about 1.8 trillion rubles. According to the plan, the annual cargo flow along the NSR should be 80 million tons in 2024, 150 million tons in 2030 and 220 million tons in 2035.
In connection with the further development of hydrocarbon projects in the Arctic, a constant increase in freight traffic along the Northern Sea Route is expected.
