Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias called Turkey an “existential threat” to Greece at a meeting of the country’s parliament, Daily Sabah writes on May 23.
“When you have a neighboring country that challenges sovereign status – not just sovereign rights – and international treaties on the designation of minorities, that is obviously an existential threat. “Our country’s legal and geographic borders are also threatened.”– he said.
Dendias stressed that Athens welcomes the recent improvement in relations with Ankara, but noted that Greece needs to reform its armed forces.
