Aid sent by Russia for rescue work in Turkey and Syria after strong earthquakes is political in nature, Dutch Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra said on February 7 on the Dutch talk show Op1.
The Dutch minister described as “acute” the fact that Russia sent rescuers to help search for earthquake victims. According to him, those who believe that Russian President Vladimir Putin “does not look at this circumstance through a geopolitical prism”they are sorely wrong.
At the same time, Wopke added that it is better for Turkey for now to accept any possible assistance, even if it comes with possible political conditions.
Let’s remember that rescue efforts continue to clear the rubble in Turkey and Syria. Countries around the world sent their aid, including the Netherlands, Iraq, Iran, Australia, the United States, Japan and Russia. Greece has also sent aid despite its difficult relationship with Turkey.
