Kabosu, the dog who became a meme and the face of cryptocurrency, has died

Kabosu the dog, whose face popularized the Doge meme and later became the Dogecoin logo, died this Friday at the age of 18. The owner of the animal shared information on social networks, assuring that Kabosu left “without suffering.”

“On the morning of May 24, Kabosu fell into a deep sleep. Without suffering, while I stroked her. She died gently, as if she was sleeping. To everyone who loved her for a long time, thank you very much. Kabosu was the happiest dog in the world. And I was the happiest mistress of the world,” wrote Atsuko Sato on Instagram.

According to New York TimesKabuso was sent to an animal shelter after her breeder died. In 2008, she was adopted by Atsuko Sato. The woman, a kindergarten teacher, began posting photos of Kabosu’s daily life. The animal’s popularity on social networks stemmed from a photograph published in 2010, in which its gaze could be read as cheerful and mischievous.

From that moment on, the image of Kabosu became associated with the Doge meme. The bitch face began to appear in publications on a variety of topics.

Kabosu’s image later entered the cryptocurrency world when it was chosen as the logo for Dogecoin, a cryptocurrency introduced as a joke in 2013. The meme currency has made some investors millionaires overnight after it registered sky-high growth in 2021.
