The Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Protection told Luza this Monday that she will meet in New York with the Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine to evaluate the integration and admission program for Ukrainians in Portugal.
Ana Mendez Godinho said at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York that she would use the meeting with the Ukrainian minister to confirm Portugal’s readiness to cooperate with Kyiv.
“The purpose of the meeting is to sum up the results of the integration and admission program for Ukrainian citizens in Portugal and, of course, to maintain our full readiness to cooperate with the Ukrainian government in everything that it needs in terms of integration and admission of Ukrainian citizens, as well as Ukrainian children,” the Portuguese said. minister.
“From the very beginning (of the conflict), we have been in contact with the Ukrainian government about this, and therefore we will have the opportunity to assess how this integration of work in Portugal took place,” the official added.
Ana Mendez Godinho will take part in the 61st session of the Commission for Social Development of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs, in a meeting dedicated to the themes of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, post-pandemic challenges, decent work, combating inequalities and intergenerational dialogue .
According to the minister, Portugal will take the opportunity to defend “the need for a clear investment in job evaluation as a key element in the fight against inequality” and also introduce the “Guaranteed Childhood Programme, which is being implemented in Portugal”.
Among the meetings that Ana Mendez Godinho will hold in New York, the most important are meetings with the former Director General of the International Labor Organization (ILO) Guy Ryder; and with UN Under-Secretary-General Amina Mohammed.
