The acting Foreign Minister of Iran, Ali Bagheri Kani, expressed this Saturday his country’s interest in continuing to strengthen the bilateral relations with Russia following the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisí in a helicopter crash on Sunday.
“Bilateral, regional and international mutual cooperation is strengthening,” Bagheri Kani said on his X account, after receiving a phone call from Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Iran’s acting foreign minister has said that he has reviewed bilateral and multilateral programs with the head of Russian diplomacy.
“The path of multilateralism is the strategic choice of Iran and Russia to configure a just world in which each actor has the opportunity to play a role based on his capacity,” said the Iranian diplomat.
On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed confidence that Iran’s foreign policy toward his country will remain unchanged following Raisi’s death.
Russia and Iran have strengthened their relations in recent years, especially since the beginning of the war in ukraine.
