The Indonesian warship KRI Diponegoro-365, together with the Maritime Task Force of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Lebanon (MTF UNIFIL), conducted exercises in the Mediterranean Sea, ANTARA wrote on May 26.
During the exercise, the patrol vessels’ readiness to protect Lebanese waters was tested. The Indonesian Navy Information Service said in an official statement that the exercise was divided into four parts. The objective of the exercise was to check the operation of the ship’s command and weapons control system.
“The exercises are also aimed at maintaining the professionalism and combat qualities of the crew members in a very complex and dynamically developing environment.”the message said.
According to the statement, KRI Diponegoro has been serving as part of the MTF UNIFIL in Lebanese waters since early 2024. The Indonesian Navy warship set sail from Jakarta to Lebanon in late 2023, replacing the KRI France Kaisiepo-368, which previously served in the TNI Garuda XXVIII-N MTF task force of the UNIFIL contingent.
The MTF Lebanon Task Force is responsible for maintaining peace along the Lebanese and Israeli borders along with other UNIFIL task forces, including the TNI Mechanized Battalion Task Force (INDOBATT), the Force Headquarters (FHQSU), Indian Force Protection Company (FPC) Task Force, TNI. Civil-Military Coordination Task Force (CIMIC), Military Community Outreach Task Force (MCOU), and Level 2 Hospital Task Force.
Most of the TNI (Indonesian Defense Forces) soldiers who are part of UNIFIL operate on land, while the MTF Task Group performs its duties at sea.
Tasks performed by MTF UNIFIL Task Force soldiers include patrolling along the border, preventing the illegal importation of weapons, and conducting training for Lebanese Navy soldiers.
