The Cannes Film Festival’s top prize, the Palme d’Or, was awarded to Sean Baker’s drama film Anora, the film festival’s official website reported on May 26.
The film takes place in the United States. A young stripper marries the son of a Russian oligarch. Her boyfriend’s parents, upon finding out about this, come to New York to solve the situation.
The film starred two Russian actors: Yura Borisov and Mark Eidelstein. Alexey Serebryakov and Daria Ekamasova also starred in episodic roles.
“I worked on this film with incredible Russian actors and I would love for their incredible performances to be seen in their home country.””said the film’s director, Sean Baker, in an interview with Variety.
It should be noted that the Best Actor award was given to Jesse Plemons for his role in the film “Kindness” by Yorgos Lanthimos. The award for best actress went to the actresses of the drama “Emilia Pérez” by Jacques Audiard.
George Lucas received an honorary Palme d’Or.
