Recall that on May 26, 1829, the crew of the brig “Mercury” under the command of Lieutenant Commander Alexander Kazarsky performed an immortal feat. The small 20-gun brig entered into an unequal battle with two Turkish ships: the 110-gun Selimiye and the 74-gun Real Bey. The battle lasted more than four hours, the Russian brig inflicted critical defeats on both Turkish battleships and emerged victorious from the battle.
