Automobile sales in India have been growing for sixteen consecutive months and at the end of April they totaled 1.7% in annual terms, the analytical agency Autostat reported on April 26.
In total, during the previous month, 337.1 thousand new passenger cars were sold in the national market. Since the beginning of the year, a total of 1.47 million cars have been sold in India, 9.3% more than in the same period last year.
The leadership in sales in the country is held by the local brand Maruti, which has sold 617.7 thousand cars since the beginning of the year. Among the top three were also the South Korean Hyundai and the Indian Tata: 210.5 thousand and 202.9 thousand cars. The most popular models in the Indian market were Tata Punch and Maruti Wagon R.
Recall that in 2018, the Indian market recorded a record sales volume of 3.4 million units of new passenger cars. In 2019 and 2020, the market fell sharply due to quarantine measures, but in 2021 it began to grow strongly. In 2022, a new record was set for the country – 3.82 million cars, and in 2023 this mark reached 4.21 million cars.
