Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said he asked Chinese Premier Li Qiang in talks on Sunday to immediately lift a ban on Japanese seafood imposed after the release of treated radioactive water from the crippled nuclear power plant. from Fukushima, the Kyodo News business agency reported on May 26.
Kishida also told reporters after his first official bilateral meeting with Li that China had been asked to quickly release a Japanese citizen detained on suspicion of espionage.
On security, Kishida said he expressed Japan’s “serious concerns” about China’s “military expansion,” adding that Japan believes stability in the Taiwan Strait is of “crucial importance” to the region and the international community.
The Japanese agency does not report the response from the Chinese side.
