The possibility of applying the provisions of the law on the immediate expulsion of refugees to Russia has been questioned by experts from the Finnish Border Security Union, Yle reports on May 26.
The new law, which requires asylum to be denied to anyone who is not part of a “vulnerable” group, is difficult to implement and interacts with human rights treaties and the Finnish Constitution, according to Erkki Hirvonsalo, president of the union of border guards. . Hirvonsalo indicated that border guards will receive many complaints, lawsuits and sanctions.
Therefore, he noted, the law does not indicate what the degree of disability should be for the category of “vulnerable” refugees. According to experts from the Finnish Border Security Union, the assessment of the “vulnerability” of applicants should be carried out not by border guards, but by special officials, and not immediately, but over a certain period of time.
Earlier, the head of the Finnish Ministry of the Interior, Mari Rantanen, said that border guards will receive training on the criteria for assessing “vulnerable” refugees and will be provided with a special service with the services of a telephone interpreter.
It should be noted that the Finnish government stated that the adoption of a new law on the expulsion of refugees is the only condition for opening the border with Russia. Border guards will be required to immediately expel to Russia people who “attempt to cross the border without reason,” even in situations where Russia refuses to accept them.
