French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu announced an additional order for Exocet missiles of the MM40 Block 3C version for the French Navy, Defense Blog reports on May 27.
The key features of the Exocet MM40 anti-ship missile of the Block 3C version are the modernized navigation module, which allows plotting three-dimensional trajectories of approach to the target at different angles and at extremely low altitudes. In the final stage of the attack, the missile is guided by a J-band active seeker (10 to 20 GHz, equivalent to wavelengths of 3 to 1.5 cm). When targeting static ground targets, GPS is used.
Deliveries of the latest surface-to-surface missiles to troops will begin in January 2024, with the MBDA France consortium responsible for production.
Let us remember that the first generation Exoset missiles, acquired by Argentina before the start of the Falklands War, had mixed results in their work in the English squadron. The French missiles that hit the ships of Britain’s Royal Navy, France’s ally, did not explode. However, the destroyer Sheffield, which had been hit on board by an Exoset anti-ship missile, caught fire from hot rocket engines and died in the fire.
