In the Rostov region, the death of 6% of winter crops, which occurred due to May frosts, was confirmed, the Molot publication reported on May 27, citing Olga Nazarenko, director of the Rostov State Center for Agrochemical Services.
Farmers have insurance for some of their crops. Laws are already being drafted to recognize winter crops as dead due to frost.
As Nazarenko pointed out, frost is not the only problem. The region is currently suffering from a lack of rainfall. There is a possibility that a state of emergency could be declared due to the drought. Rain is expected especially in those areas where crops have suffered little damage.

“It is most likely that in the southern areas of the region the cleanup will begin on June 20”“” Nazarenko noted, explaining that this year winter crops ripen two weeks earlier than in the past.
