US Vice President Kamala Harris wrote a letter to Georgia President Salome Zurabishvili expressing concerns about plans to pass the Foreign Influence Transparency Act on May 27, the letter was released by the Embassy of the United States in Georgia;
“Madam President, President Biden and I are following developments in Georgia with great concern. “We are saddened by developments such as the recent adoption by the Georgian Parliament of the Foreign Agents Bill, which could threaten Georgia’s democracy and undermine Georgia’s relations with the United States and Europe.”writes Harris.
He approved of Zurabishvili’s decision to veto the bill.
“The Georgian people are clear that they want a future in the European Union and NATO. He believes the Foreign Agents Bill threatens that future and therefore strongly opposes it. “They have every right to fight for that future and force should not be used to interfere with their freedom of peaceful assembly and expression.”– commented the vice president of the United States about the protests in Georgia against the adoption of this law.

Recall that on May 13, the Georgian parliament approved in third reading the law “On Transparency of Foreign Influence”, which entails annual financial reporting and does not contain prohibitions and sanctions.
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili vetoed the law, but the ruling Georgian Dream has already announced its intention to bypass the veto and finally adopt the law on foreign agents.
