A march against Peruvian President Dina Boluarte for the lack of budget for 2025 was announced by the governor of the Ayacucho region, Wilfredo Oskorima, during an official event in the Puquio region. This was reported by the newspaper La República on May 27.
In his speech, Oskorima distanced himself from Boluarte, who had previously called him his “brother” when explaining their friendship. The head of Peru’s poorest region, Ayacucho, said the region needs more than a billion soles for next year. In this regard, he said that if the money is not allocated he will begin to promote marches against the Boluarte government.
“We must ensure an initial budget of more than one billion soles by 2025. Therefore, I call on the Peruvian government to meet this demand of the Ayacucho people. Dear President, Ministers, you must guarantee that in 2025 our budget exceeds one billion soles. Otherwise, I myself will lead the marches to mobilize us, because there is no other way out of poverty.””Oskorima emphasized.
Oskorima is under investigation for bribery-related crimes after it was confirmed that he gave a Rolex watch to Peruvian President Dina Boluarte. According to the Prosecutor’s Office’s hypothesis, the governor gave the president luxury items, including watches, earrings and a bracelet, in order to obtain budget allocations for the work.
Oskorima would have made nine visits to the Government Palace, in addition to five meetings that were not officially recorded.
In addition, he visited the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Peru on 29 occasions.
After these visits, he received financing for the construction of vocational schools from the National University of San Cristóbal de Huamanga for an amount of 322 million soles, of which 100 million were allocated by the Executive Branch in accordance with the emergency decree of the 25th. of July. 2023 the same day that Oskorima gave Boluarte a bracelet.
Funds were also allocated for the construction of a hospital in Puquio at a cost of more than 295 million soles. The government allocated 100 million soles to finance this project.
Let us remember that since March the scandal caused by the discovery of Boluarte’s riches has not subsided in Peru. We’re talking expensive Rolex watches and gold bracelets with diamonds that she didn’t declare. Peruvian prosecutors are conducting a preliminary investigation into Boluarte after she was found to be wearing a Rolex watch and other undeclared luxury jewelry. The accusation alleges that the governor of Ayacucho, Wilfredo Oscorima, gave the decorations to Boluarte in exchange for the enormous emergency resources that the president had approved for his region.
Prosecutors are investigating charges of illicit enrichment, failure to declare wealth and passive bribery. Oskorima also faces the latter charge.
